With the presence of Amazon Cloud Drive, the online cloud storage market becomes more competitive. However, currently, there is probably no actual rival to Dropbox, the leading service provider in this field. Backed by Y.C few years ago, Dropbox becomes a phenomenon among end-users community since there are many useful and unique features there.
As a Amazon Cloud Drive and Dropbox users, I feel both online cloud storage service are good at speed, secure and easy to use. However, apart from offering more free space for user, Amazon Cloud Drive need more improvements to catch up Dropbox. That is why Dropbox is still growing fast regardless of other competitions.
Here I compile the most useful tips in the shake of helping you experience Dropbox better.
1. Invite classmates (.edu email) to get more extra space
Normally, Dropbox gives user freely 2 GB only. To increase this limited space, you can either upgrade to premium package or invite more friends, colleagues to Dropbox. Each invite you send out and one new comer starts to use Dropbox via your referent link, you will get free 250 MB extra.
There is a small tip there. Just send an invitation to your classmates, colleagues working in education section by dropping their email address (with .edu extension) at here https://www.dropbox.com/edu
After your friends accept your invitation, you will get 500 MB extra space (more than normal 250 MB). Great job Dropbox!
2. Sync specific Dropbox files or folders
In my opinion, synchronization Dropbox data throughout various devices and platforms is really useful. However, there is one downside. Dropbox does not allow you to sync selective folders or files. By syncing all data, you will sometimes feel inconvenient due to long time span of data transfer.
Fortunately, thanks to the recent 1.0 version upgrade, you can specify any folder to sync.
Click on the Dropbox tray icon, access Preferences > Advanced and you can use “Selective Sync” feature to choose only folders you want to sync.
3. Playback music stored on Dropbox without downloading
In the coming time, definitely there will be more third-party developers taking in part in this cloud storage service. For instance, recently DropTunes has been out of the lab to let Dropbox users play music that stored there without downloading.
Though DropTunes is only a new brand in the sake of implementation Dropbox ‘s capacity, lots of users are rushing forward there to entertain their music without worry about other regular hassle tasks.
In a nut shell, Dropbox stores your music data and DropTunes plays the iTunes role in the cloud case. It works along with Flash and HTML5. However, you need to use a modern browser that already supports the later technology to enjoy more extension, including mp3, m4a, ogg, and wav (Flash supports mp3 extension only).
Access DropTunes, just authorize your DropBox account information to this service. Choose the music folder and hit the play button to enjoy!
Since DropTunes works by creating a new Dropbox folder for configuration files, to play audio files you need to have equally free space in your Dropbox account e.g. to play a 5 MB song you must have at least 5 MB free space in your Dropbox. Visit https://droptun.es/login
4. Send an email, Receive in Dropbox
Normally, we have 2 ways to upload to Dropbox store: upload by hand or just by dropping the files you want to upload to Dropbox in the sync folders. However, there is a much more convenient way to upload to cloud there, just sending an email.
Send To Dropbox at http://sendtodropbox.com is the third-party service you can use in the case. As its name reveals, you can easily authorize your confidential Dropbox information there, then the service will give you an unique email address and create a Attachments folder inside your Dropbox dashboard.
Each time you send data from any email address to this address, the file will be automatically zipped and upload to Attachments folders. You do not need to upload manually or by using any application.
Just visit the about address and start making your Dropbox more easily!
5. Get more extra space freely!
By promoting Dropbox, you can get 512 MB freely. Just access https://www.dropbox.com/free and start follow Dropbox on Twitter, promote this useful service on Facebook, Twitter, give some feedback, you will easily get total a half of one GB, enough to store all of your word files.
If you have not a Dropbox account, do not hesitate to grab one free 2GB account here http://starblogger.net/recommend/dropbox/

As a (former) Dropbox user I’d like to recommend SugarSync as an alternative way to backup and sync your data in the cloud. Free accounts provide 5GB of disk space and you can choose which folders to sync in your hard drive, not only one single dropbox.
If anyone wants to register for an account, feel free to use my referral link that will add 500 MB further bonus to both mine and your account
Thanks!
I prefer Dropbox than SugarSync. In my point of view, Dropbox does much better than any rivals in term of sync. Also, now Dropbox allows you to choose the folder to sync.
I use Adrive. Not many features but 50GB/free account. Remote upload supported. A good way to keep my file online.
Remote upload is one of the nice feature but in term of sync, there is no real rival with Dropbox.
One of the reason for the popular of Dropbox is that, it is backed by YC. Tons of venture capital behinds it
.
DropBox is best in its services.. I didn’t knew about Droptunes.. will try it out too.. they give us many options to grow our space easily and for free just refer friends and use Social Media to follow them.. I have gained about 6 GB of free space by doing so.. Even I am using DropBox as a CDN for my other Blog it works fine..
It appears that you are blogging somewhere. Plz let me know your other sites man!
yeah Daniel I have 2 more Blogs on which I blog.. ipodtouch4g.net & 2innovate.in(least updated one) and also 2innovate is running DropBox as CDN.. Just Today morning while reading this post i was trying to remove Dropbox cdn and use another free cdn..and that caused some problem now my admin dashboard is not opening while blog is working fine..
I think if you are concerned seriously about CDN, you should do a try with some prepaid CDN service. I have drafted an article about it.
.
I am not really concerned a lot but just was giving it a try using speedymirror.com…which paid CDN service you recommend?..
Stay turned man. You will see there are at least 3 prepaid services now!
