6 Things About Google Chrome for Android: Good and Not Good

Google has just released the first testing version Google Chrome for Android ecosytem after a long time of development. Though the appearance of Chrome on the Market is definitely a good news, it still lacks some important features as the desktop version has. To get started with Chrome, at least you must have a 4.0 Android based device because Chrome only supports this Android OS version. Is that a first sad news, I think a number of Android users will think so since the major segment of Android based devices are not running the latest version Ice Cream Sandwich.

We will continue writing this post by initially mentioning about the good things from Chrome browser for Android. You may know that Android OS has already had at least few browsers so far. The default one is reasonable good at  basic tasks, meanwhile the famed browsers Opera Mini and Firefox Mobile also makes theirs footsteps on Android quite so long ago. However, Android and Chrome are make by one mother and that is the main reason why we are still waiting for this well-established browser on desktop available on the phone and tablet operating system.

In short, I think the more choice/offer on the market, the more competing and then better feature on the go.

With what I saw among Android community, here are 6 things including good and not good ones about Chrome for Android at the first glance.

Chrome for Android

1. Simplicity, Speed and Tabbed Support

As Google claimed on their blog, Chrome Mobile is specifically designed for Android with only purpose: for a better users experience. Like desktop version, Chrome on Android is easily to use with fast speed. You can use multi-purpose address field to fill up a webpage link or do a search task. In other words, Chrome for Android has integrated omnibox feature like the desktop version. For those who often do the search task, it will benefit very much because Chrome will instantly display the result while you are trying to fill up the keywords on the omnibox.

Though we may seldom open many tabs while surfing the Internet on a smartphone or tablet, it is till very nice to know that Chrome for Android will allow you to open many tabs. In addition, on Chrome, all tabs will fit your screens, no matter it is a smartphone or a tablet.

2. Private Browsing :  Incognito Feature

Similar to the desktop version, Chrome for Android also integrates private surfing feature. It called “Incognito”. You can surf the Internet anonymously without worrying about your cookie or search history information. I think this is really a good news for tablet and smartphone users.

3. Sync Function

Google will automatically sync your data across platforms and devices. Chrome for Android does the same task as it works on desktop. Your personal data including bookmarks, password will be sync automatically providing that you login with your Google account confidential. It seems that we are going into cloud time very soon.

Chrome for Android

Three features are not news at all but at least they are what almost users want to get while using a handset to access Internet. At the infant time , Chrome for Android is really nice to attract us. However, it can not avoid many issues as others at the first release. Here are some:

4. No Flash

Obviously, this is the first and foremost shortage of Chrome on Android. There is no Flash support and Adobe has also confirmed the fact. The future of the rich content on the web will therefor lean completely on HTML5. It is clear, but at the moment Flash is still the main technology for video and other multi-media contents. While the default browser on the Android OS has already supported, I think the lack of Flash support on Chrome for Android will make it less impress among Android users.

5. No Extension

You are not able to install thirt-party tiny extension on the first release of Chrome for Android. That is obviously a downside. As I always prefer Chrome and Firefox over IE or other browsers due to their huge collection of extensions and plugins, no extension is a thing that can make the Chrome on handset becomes quite normal like other choices.

6. Lacking some useful features

As almost folks commented on Android Market, Chrome for Android is currently lacking various other features. For instance, you are not able to view full screen of some videos. Chrome does not allow you to change the user agent. There is no remember or enable javascript options etc…

Without doubt,  Google Chrome for Android has a long trip ahead before become a perfect choice. At the very early release, Chrome surprises us with its fast speed and well-render capacity. We will see the first stable version to see how improve it is.

Hello Daniel, I wouldn’t change to chrome yet! I believe it is not offering features that are helping to the better! Thanks for sharing.

    • I think that Chrome for Android is still on the go. It is impossible to install it on my Nook Color due to the browser does not support Android 2.3. So Opera Mini is still the first choice! Thanks for dropping by!
