A Short Review of @FaceBook.com Platform: A New Message Exchange System

Few days back, I wrote an artile about the coming FaceBook email platform (aka FaceMail) and how to pre-register your own address.  Then I had to remix the content and claimed that is not true. However, finally today I got  a wanted notification that allow me to upgrade into FaceBook new message as well as grab my @facebook.com address.

Here is what I have walked through with Fmail today.

Firstly you should note that FaceMail has been not offcially released so that only some users are invited randomly to upgrade to new message exchange system which was announced months back.

Lucky Man

This morning, as a lucky man, I received a notification from Facebook that let me upgrade to new message. Here is the screen I captured. Whenever you receive this one, you will be able to grab your own Facemail address.

Clicking on the See What ‘s New button, then choose “Upgrade now”, you be immediately a FaceMail user, like me. Facebook ready chooses for you a Facemail address, that is username. Your dashboard is look like the image below:

Then I eagerly tested FaceMail by sending an email to my Gmail and vice versa. Here are the screen host and the emails’ content:

I am testing Facebook Mail (aka Facemail) platform. Currently it is lacking ton of frequent features like common webmails such as Gmail and Yahoo Mail. Nevertheless it is a great new for FaceBook fan when they can easily interact with other users based on email connection.

The Pros:

  • Working as a usual email services.
  • You can send email with high-speed
  • You can attach document, picture.
  • You can also send the message to cellphone.
  • Facemail allows you to send message to more than one person.
  • The message is considered a usual text message (sending to FaceBook users) as well as an email (when you send to other mail system.)

The Cons

  • It cannot display HTML code in the email content. If you want to view these kind of message, you need to click on the Expand button.
  • Lacking ton of premium features that users are already familiar with on Gmail.
  • The interface is too simple.

This is the email I receive from Gmail:

Conlusion

I think FaceMail will be a different webmail platform in comparison with some current popular webmails. It is extremely useful and convenience to connect and interact with others, especially via Facebook where lots of people are addicted.

However, you can send email to others on FaceMail as usual, but I think it cannot replace the powerful mail systems such as Gmail and Yahoo Mail in the near future.

Nonetheless, it is still a better system for informal and instant message exchange. You will perhaps change your old mind about email when you already use FaceMail like me.

In addition that, Facemail is free so that there is no reason you decline to grab your own Facemail address as soon as possible.

How about your experience with FaceMail? What is your opinion about the new message exchange?  Feel free to tell something here with our readers.

I hate the fact that I’m forced to use my existing vanity URL as my Facebook mail address. I wasn’t quick enough to grab the username I want, and now I’m forced to stick with the not-so-awesome alternative.

Have you tested the free text service too?
