I have been a loyal customer of Kaspersky, the well-known security solution from Russia for a long time, perhaps since it was running the 7.0 version. Just few seconds ago, I was noticed that the newest stable version, Kaspersky 2012 had officially been released. Here in this article, I will do a brief review about it.
1. Perhaps, one of the most notable thing related to Kaspersky 2012, both Kaspersky Antivirus Security and Kaspersky Internet Security is that their total package have been reduced significantly than the previous ones. When I tried to download the KAS version, I was really surprised. The total file is only 66.87 MB, reducing a half in comparison with KAS 2012 beta version. It apprears that all Kaspersky ‘s fan will give the new product some credits thanks to its smaller body. You have probably known that nowadays almost security suites have a normal package more than 100 MB, BitDefender or Norton 2012, for examples. As I have seen a stat on Softpedia, I guess, Kaspersky customers will soon update to the newest version. Only few hours after the Russian vendor officially released Kaspersky 2012 generation, there are more than 300k downloading times on exclusive Softpedia.
2. The first downside (or more precise, the first disadvantage) is that, when I installed newest version, Kaspersky 2012 did not recognize the current version on my computer. That also means, I have to install it as a new application, instead of upgrading. Kaspersky cannot “immigrate” the license key I have been using for few months, so I have to activate the application as a trial. I think, Kaspersky should and they are able to do better. Just let the product use the license on the predecessor as many other applications work very well. Of course, there is still a point to hang your belief and trust there, Kaspersky allows you to “upgrade” your old license on the newer version. However, that isn’t a new thing since we have already known, Kaspsersky always offers this nice feature.
3. It is easy to see what is news on Kaspersky 2012. At first glance, it is obviously the interface. Similarity to the beta version, Kaspsersky 2012 has a diffirent coat with the latest previous one. It looks like more smoothly, Windows 7 ‘s inspiration and style. The main interface, however, is the same with 2011 version, at least in term of main colour: blue.
I choose Kaspsersky Antivirus version instead of Kaspsersky Internet Security to install and write a review because I am owing the license of this version only. I think, however, there are only some diffirences in functions, not in the interface between the two.
You will see the main interface of Kaspersky is divided into some blocks (as some widgets). There are 6 options there including Scan, Update, Tools, Virtual Keyboard, Quaratine and Upgrade. On the more professional version KIS, you will have more options such as Safe Run for Application, Application Activity, Network Monitor and so on.
In term of UI, I think, Kaspersky is becoming better and better. Not only its interface become more attractive, but it also reduces the total package significantly. Simple but still strong and stable as usual and I think that is what end-users are willing.
4. Of course, the newer version always comes will new and improvable features. Using the current license key on Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 and Kaspsersky Security 2012 products, you will get some improvements and enhancements. Kaspersky 2012 can protect your system much better, more centralized and automatically control. You will no long be worry about the virus that can prevent security suite from starting-up.
As it reports on the main interface, Kaspersky will offer a better cloud protection. In the report table, you can also see what is happening in the security zone, how many PCs Kaspsersky are protecting. You can find out many other enhanced features including in the KIS version such as blocking spams, parental control, a smarter firewall, virtual keyboard, scan, privacy option and so on.
Not only does reduce the package, Kaspersky 2012 also spends less system resource while operating. I checked my RAM usage report on Task Manager and it showed that Kaspsersky uses only few memory ranging from 12 to 45 MB in the normal state or while updating the database.
You can download both Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 and Internet Security 2012 and use freely in 30 days of trial. If you have already had license key using with 2011 version, just applying to the new one, your antivirus security will be your loyal assistant!
PS: Perhaps, I will conduct a give away event soon and Kaspersky will be one of the rewards. Stay tuned mates!
