Testing and Optimization Blog ‘s Speed With Google Page Speed

As a webmaster/blogger, perhaps you have ever tried to use Yahoo YSlow sometimes. This free service help you test your site speed and give you some suggestion to optimize it. Today, you have another and seem better option from Google. It is not a April Fools story, I promise!

increase blog speed

The rival of YSlow named Page Speed Online has just been released from Google Labs few hours ago. Based on web interface, this useful online tool can analyze your blog/website ‘s performance and then give the owner a number of suggestions to optimize it becomes faster.

Working on any browser, even on mobile, in my point of view, the newest product from Google Labs is obviously useful for a larger number of bloggers like me.

The web based version is however only another since the search giant company already made its first début last week with a special extension for Chrome and Firefox. As Google claimed in the FAQ section, there is no difference between the browser extension and the new one, a more convenient version based on web interface.

In the case, Google Page Speed not only does suggest how to optimize blog/site to get a faster speed on the PC web but also gives some recommendation to help webmasters customize theirs mobile sites version, particularly for high-end smartphones. It is said mobile traffic will play a more important role in the next few years, therefore, it is “even more critical” to optimize blog ‘s speed for mobile performance than for laptop, PC.

As Google Page Speed suggests, by eliminating (removing) some unnecessary elements and reducing few JavaScript during the page load, we can increase blog speed on mobile. We all know, faster speed blog will be favored in Google ranking than the lower. So optimization blog speed is becoming more and more critical with all bloggers.

Google Page Speed

I tried to test my blog at Google Page Speed and get a score 85 in total 100. (more score, less necessary improvement!).

Here is what Google said: “The Page Speed Score indicates how much faster a page could be. A high score indicates little room for improvement, while a lower score indicates more room for improvement. The Page Speed Score does not measure the time it takes for a page to load.”

Here are some blogs’ score of my friends:

+ Documentary: 72

+ Tek3d: 78

+ eBlogViet: 83

+ TechSharing 84

+ Hungmarketing: 80

+ TechWalls: 85

+ Shoutmeloud: 77

+ Tip4Pc: 82

+ GiaiPhapso: 46

+ Congdongthongtin: 71 ect…

PS: Note that, you can check your blog optimization at http://www.webpagetest.org since Google Page Speed use the same SDK with this site. Here are another choice: Chrome extension and Firefox extension.

  2. It seems the score varies for each test. I just run the tool and my site at Tek3D got 80. Btw, it looks very similar to the YSlow tool.
