I have ever been a loyal Yahoo customer from Yahoo Mail to Yahoo Messenger to Yahoo Small Business so far. However, probably that nice relationship is not stable and I have to confess that it is running in unprecedented orientation since there any many other similar and better services I can use instead of Yahoo.
Today might be another story. As a fan of freebies and coupon stuff, I have been drawn my attention with what Yahoo is offering: you can buy a domain on Yahoo Small Business with only $1.99.
However, one again I find that although the offer is great, Yahoo is making a not good business strategy, as usual! Here are some reasons why you should and should not buy a domain here, no matter the offer is very wonderful.
Coupon code is always great. I purchased the domain name you are visiting here with only few bucks in a regular Godaddy discount event last year. Also, I bought a hosting account from Hostgator on the Black Friday event, which get me 50 % off. Not only coupon codes bring lots of benefits for customers, they also make brand name conducting these campaign more popular. But why you should be serious before buying a domain on Yahoo Small Business with the newest coupon? Here is my experience.
Yahoo Domain Name Coupon Code: Buy or Not To Buy?
I hurriedly went to Yahoo Small Business. and was shocked with Yahoo ‘s marketing words. You can see the image below:
This offer is open up for new customer only in the first year and it will quickly expire in April 30, 2011. Everything sounds great except one important point almost new users do not care.
I tried registering a new domain name and the coupon code, of course, is still valid. There are 4 things you should know:
- Naturally you not need to apply the coupon code to get this cheap price.
- If you can not see the automatic redeem process, just apply the code YDM120DEAL to enjoy a cheap domain price, only $1.99
- In case this coupon code is unavailable, apply another choice BESTDEAL. It will cost you only $3.35 for a new domain name and one more thing, this code has been available for a very long time.
- STOP, TAKE CAUTION: You will be automatically charged $30 in the second year. See the image below and think seriously before hit the Continue button.
How To Deal With The Hot Cake But Unwanted “Trap”
In my opinion, the discount price is great. You should know that almost registrars charge you more than $10 per domain name. Yahoo is one of the most popular trademark on the Internet. There is no reason to skip this offer.
To deal with this potential “trap” (if can can call is, sorry Yahoo), you can switch to another professional registrars such as Godaddy, Namecheap or Gandi. I means, though Yahoo is a fame Internet service provider, they have a large number of business niche and that is why buying domain name and hosting there are not a best deal.
Transferring your domain name to another registrar is as similar as you register a new one. Take part in some Godaddy marketing events, you even transfer to the new registrar with only $ 1. Wait for 60 days before the transfer request availability.
However, even you have transferred from Yahoo, the deal is still available. So after the domain switches successfully to the new registrar, log in to your Yahoo control panel and choose Cancel Plan. Everything will be ok.
I highly recommend you choose Paypal as a safer payment method and you can also cancel within the payment processor dashboard.
To summarize, you should buy the domain name on Yahoo with this great offer but should take care your wallet too. To be a smart customer!

They did the same thing to me a few years ago. I purchase a cheap domain from them and hosting. I abandoned that project but was reminded when they charged my credit card the next year. Don’t do any hosting or domain purchase with Yahoo! Their hosting was terrible too. It was very basic and archaic. At the time, they didn’t offer any advance features like cPanel.
I have learnt a small “lesson” there too. My cc has been charged $35 without and notification for unused domain name. Terrible! Since then, I always choose Paypal to pay all service and it is very easy to control your wallet. Have you known this payment processor allows you to choose auto renew or not. Very benefit.
Yahoo Domain offers run all time previously i had hear about one offer for 3.99 $ all TLD’s.. But you wrote the actual hidden things behind this Offer.. we can surely purchase it but should transfer the Domain to another registrars.
Lots of bloggers have taken this opportunity to buy a new domain name, but me.
.
Thanks! I will to buy 1 domain dot com!!!
Let’s buy, then transfer before it expired. If not, you will be charge $30 per year from Yahoo.
Also, you have to cancel plan and remove the authorized auto payment. Otherwise, if you will be charged without any notification.
